\"\"<\/em>Twisp: The Power of Community<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>is a documentary exploring the people and values that make this tiny town in north central Washington a thriving community<\/em><\/strong>, rather than another abandoned farm town or commercialized strip of interstate.<\/p>\n

Scenic beauty is definitely part of the appeal. Yet Twisp also displays a \u201ccan-do\u201d spirit that encompasses everything from local food to local food for thought. How many towns of 937 fulltime residents boast their own independent radio station, newspaper, playhouse, orchestra, library, and rich array of other cultural options\u2014from primitive skills gatherings to poetry readings?<\/p>\n

Though scarred from devastating wildfires two summers running, Twisp has\u00a0taken charge of its own recovery efforts. Though small, it hasn\u2019t shied away from big issues\u2014like providing affordable housing, child- and elder-care, capital for business start-ups, and negotiating public vs. private land use issues. This film explores the qualities and attributes that help Twisp prosper, rather than dry up or give up.<\/p>\n

\"\"My career has been one of a storyteller, although for most of my life my medium has been the written word\u2014the tool available when I graduated from college; before digital cameras, social media, or even personal computers. Four years ago, however, I participated in Twisp\u2019s Wild Mind documentary film camp. That experience transformed my storytelling, enabling me to amplify narrative with music and images. I now have all of the equipment and software necessary to shoot and edit this film. With your help, I will have the means to produce and distribute it!<\/p>\n

I have received a grant of $1,500 from Artist Trust towards the film\u2019s $18,280 production budget. Coming from Artist Trust, this grant is a bit like our town: small, but with a big impact\u2014ensuring that the film will be seen throughout Washington. If successful, it may even play in film festivals all over the country.<\/p>\n

I am seeking sponsors<\/a><\/span> to help make the film the best it can be. Your support will underwrite professional production, including aerial footage, music rights, DVD copying, and my own time in the editing suite.
